independence
Indy
Indy is the name of the new distributed social network that we're producing. Indy stands for Independent or Individualism or Identity. For all these reasons, Indy is the new name of our social networking tool.
What is it?
Indy is a social utility, like Facebook, MySpace, or Xanga that you own.
- Indy is about controlling your identity.
- Expressing your individualism.
- Helping you become independent online.
Instead of depending on other people to provide your social network, indy lets you provide your own social network. The only problem with this approach is that providing your own social network isn't easy. Even if you can build it, how are you going to get anyone to join? There are numerous blogs where no one write a single comment, ever. Everyone can't be a part of everyone's else's social network, can they? Why would anyone want to sign up for hundreds of different sites and then maintain their identity on each, who has that sort of time. Indy solves all of these problem and more.
Instead of being a part of any social network where you have to sign up or create account, Indy asks you to create a single account which can be hosted anywhere. Once you have created an the only thing left to do is find friends to add to your account. Indy makes everything as simple as any other social network with the added benefit of privacy. Further, you own your own data, and using the PPL also protect your profile information that are sent from your site to anyone else.

Licensing
The core of Indy which is based on top of an existing popular CMS is licensed under GPL2. The contribution we make to the system are licensed under GPL3. Basically this means that if you add any new features that build on top of any of work, i.e. hook into it, then you must release your code to the public. We think that this is the best way to keep everyone honest.
Hosting Indy
Don't wanna maintain your own install, no problem we can host the application for you. You can either use a sub-domain or your own domain, we can handle either. On the other hand if you rather deploy it yourself, no problem! The code is licensed under GPL3 and may be deployed anywhere you like. Read more >>
